We no longer recommend Gmail, for all the reasons listed below and more! Try a professional shipping provider instead.

In June 2016, Gmail will change its DMARC policy from p = "none" to p = "reject." This means that any message sent using gmail.com at the FROM address must originate from the Gmail infrastructure. Therefore, if you are not sending with Gmail, you cannot use a Gmail address in a FROM header in your newsletters.

There are two main reasons why sending with Gmail will not work.

Google's security system is really great, if someone has their Gmail password in their hands, well, they won't be able to do much unless they are using their IP address. Why? Because when Google detects an unusual IP address that tries to connect to your account, it will deny you access and send you an email and, finally, a text message on your mobile phone.

When you send a test email from the MailPoet Configuration and receive the following message: "SMTP Error: Could not authenticate. | SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host". then I could be entering this case

Allow new IPs in Google account

In your case, when you configure your site to send with your Gmail account, you want to allow a new IP to use Gmail credentials. To allow a new unrecognized application, simply go to https://security.google.com/settings/security/activity, find the line that concerns you and allow access.

2. Your host is blocking some outbound ports

If you are trying to send from Gmail and it does not work, you can be sure that your problem is common. Especially if it is hosted on a shared server (hosting plans that cost a few dollars a month).

To verify, go to MailPoet Settings> Shipping Method and try to send a test with this button:

Check if you get this error that shows "Connection rejected", like this:

This means that your host is definitely blocking the port needed to connect to the Gmail SMTP service.

If the port is blocked, what can I do?

You must change the shipping method. Try sending a test email with the "Your own website" shipping method.

Some users have said on Google forums that their Gmail accounts do not receive any email. Those users can still send emails, but they don't receive any. These are some possible solutions for Gmail accounts that do not receive emails.

How to repair Gmail accounts that do not receive emails?

1. Try Gmail in a different browser

If your Gmail account does not receive emails, open it in a different browser and check if the problem persists.

You can use any other browser for this purpose, but we recommend using the UR browser. This browser is built on the Chromium engine, but unlike Chrome, it will not send your data to Google.

2. Is Gmail inactive?

The Gmail service may be temporarily down. To verify if that is the case, open the keyquery.com website in a browser. Enter the keyword "gmail" in the search box of that website and press the Enter key. Then, click on Gmail to see if there is a Gmail cut. If so, wait for Google to fix the interruption.

3. Verify the Gmail Storage Fee

1. Users cannot receive emails when they no longer have free space in Gmail. To verify storage, open your Google Drive page (with which Gmail users must be registered as part of a Google account).

2. Click Update storage on Google Drive to open the tab shown directly below. The maximum storage space allocated freely for Gmail, Google Drive and Google Photos is 15 GB combined.

3. Users who have reached the 15 GB storage mark should free some space. To do that, open Gmail in a browser.

4. Then select some emails to delete and click the Delete button.

5. Click More to the left of the Gmail tab.

6. Then click on Bin to open it.

7. Click on the Empty Trash option now to delete the emails there. From then on, users can start receiving emails from Gmail again.

4. Remove email filters

1. Gmail users who do not receive messages in their inboxes may be due to filters that redirect emails to alternative folders, such as All Mail. Users can remove filters by clicking the Settings button and selecting Settings.

2. Click Filters and blocked addresses to open the tab shown below.

3. Select all filters listed on that tab.

4. Press the Delete button to clear the filters.

5. Disable email forwarding

1. Some users may need to disable Gmail email forwarding to receive messages. To do so, click on the Settings button in Gmail.

2. Select the Configuration option.

3. Select Forwarding and POP / IMAP to open that tab

4. Then click on the Disable forwarding there option.

5. Click on the Save Changes button.

6. Turn off or configure firewalls

Some antivirus programs also include firewalls that can also block Gmail emails. Therefore, try to remove antivirus utilities from system startup, which will prevent them from running when users start Windows.

Users can remove antivirus utilities from the system startup by right clicking on the taskbar, selecting Task Manager, clicking on the Start tab and selecting the antivirus software on that tab.

Then click Disable to remove the antivirus utility from startup.

If users receive Gmail messages after restarting Windows, the antivirus software must have blocked emails when it was running.

Users can uninstall their antivirus utilities to make sure their firewalls do not block emails. Alternatively, users can configure the settings of their antivirus utilities to prevent them from blocking emails as described in the following article.

Gmail SMTP Settings

It is a good alternative compared to the PHP mail function. You can use this type of SMTP service to receive customer inquiries through the contact form of your application, password reset emails, order confirmation, etc. However, this has a limit to send emails, that is, 500 emails per day or 500 recipients in a single email per day.

Therefore, if you want to send transactional and marketing emails (in volumes), we recommend that you set up a third-party email delivery service, such as the Elastic Email (paid) add-on.

Step 1: allow access to Google account

Before using Gmail SMTP, you must authorize your server to access your Google account.

Click here, log in to your Gmail account, then click Continue.

Note: You must use your main Google account to achieve this purpose. If you have merged google accounts, you will receive an authentication error.

This will enable access to your account for your new device (web server).

Step 2: Generate the application password if two-step verification is enabled

If you have enabled two-step verification in your Google account, you must generate an application-specific password. If you are not using two-step verification, you can skip this step and go to Step 3.

Select Other / Custom Name in Select Application, name it as "DO - Production Server" and then click Generate.

Write down the application password, as it will be necessary in the next step.

Now, open the link again and click Continue.

Step 3: Configure Gmail in the SMTP plug-in

Enter the details of Gmail inside the SMTP plug-in (to activate the SMTP plug-in).

1. Select Other / Custom SMTP from the drop-down menu

2. Enter smtp.gmail.com as your host

3. Use port 587

4. Enter your Gmail login username your.username@gmail.com

5. Enter your Gmail password OR application password (if two-step verification is enabled)

Click Save to finish the configuration on the server.

That's. Your Gmail email service has been configured on your server for outgoing transactional emails.

Step 4: test the SMTP functionality

Once the settings are updated, you can test them by sending mail through SSH.

Once you are logged in through ssh, use the following command to send mail for testing:

Type your content and press enter

Use ctrl + d to send the mail.

You can find out if it is successful or not by checking if you received the email. If the email is not delivered, you can use the mailq command to check for errors.

If the mail queue is empty, the mail is sent successfully from your server.

Hangouts Not Working

1. Hangouts does not work in Internet Explorer from the Windows 8 start screen

Sorry, Metro fans! Start your browser from the Windows desktop to use Chrome.

If you are using the Start screen to start Internet Explorer, Hangouts may simply not work. This is because Hangouts requires an add-in to work in IE, and the full-screen version of the Metro-style IE does not allow any add-ons. To avoid this, you have a couple of options. You can run IE in Desktop mode when you start it from the desktop instead of the Start screen, and then install Hangouts, or you can simply switch to another browser.

2. If you run Hangouts on multiple devices, Hangouts sends notifications to everything that is running, causing an alert overload

Avoid the flood of notifications by closing the Hangouts application or logging out.

If you have Hangouts open on your desktop and on your phone simultaneously, notifications will appear on both devices, even if you are not actively involved with one of them.

Unfortunately, this is a known issue with Hangouts. It is a pain for some users, while other users prefer it to work this way.

If you receive too many notifications, there are some solutions available. First, you can log out of Hangouts on devices or browsers that you don't want to receive notifications from, or close the application completely.

On Android devices, you have some more options. You can use Menu> Postpone notifications to suspend alerts on that device. Notifications can also be suspended indefinitely by user by selecting the settings icon in a Hangout window and unchecking the Notifications box there.

3. Photos sent through Hangouts through MMS taken in portrait mode rotate automatically and become landscape photos.

This is a specific issue related to Hangouts on certain Android phones when images are sent through MMS. Many users report that the problem is erratic and that deleting the application data from the Android Application Manager can help, at least on some occasions.

The most reliable solution is not to use the camera inside Hangouts to take photos, but to take photos separately, using the standard Android camera. When you attach photos of portraits from your photo library, they appear to appear with the proper rotation intact.

4. Video calls do not work

While there are many potential reasons why Hangouts won't start a video call, these are some of the most common troubleshooting tips.

First, the Chrome browser does not require a plug-in for Hangouts to work ... unless your company uses Google Apps, in which case you will still have to install the Hangouts plug-in to make video calls. It's also a good idea to install the Chrome Hangouts application, which adds Hangouts to the Chrome Application Launcher, where you can start a new video call.

Keep in mind that Hangouts does not support a handful of webcams, microphones and audio devices. Assuming this is not your problem, be sure to select the correct audio equipment in the Hangout setup menu. To find this menu, start a new video, then click on the settings icon. Hangouts may work better if you select specific devices for each of the three options instead of "Default."

Finally, in general, restarting your browser and / or your computer is also a good solution for any problem related to video within Hangouts.

5. The Hangouts browser plug-in will not be installed (or will disappear)

Can't install the Hangouts plugin? First, make sure you are not running 64-bit Internet Explorer, since the add-in is not compatible with this browser. If you use Chrome, check chrome: // plugins / to see if the Google Talk plug-in is installed and enabled. (The name is a remnant of the previous incarnation of Hangouts).
