Method 1: try to open Excel in safe mode

Step 1: Press Windows + R button simultaneously to open the run dialog.

Step 2: In the Run window, type excel.exe / safe and press Enter key. This will open the Microsoft Excel program in safe mode.

Step 3: After that, try to open the Excel file that is not responding again. If the file opens normally, save the data to another Excel file for future use.

Method 2: install the latest update

At some point, these problems can start to appear when you skip or install the latest Windows and Office updates. Therefore, make sure that you have installed the latest updates on your computer.

If not, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Go to Control Panel and then click on System and Security.

Step 2: Now, set it to Automatic Mode by using the Start Maintenance option.

Method 3: recompile macros

Using problematic macros can also trigger a no response problem. Follow the steps below to fix it:

Open MS Excel and then navigate to Developer -> Visual Basic.

Go to Tools -> Options. After opening the Options window, click the General tab and uncheck the "Compile on demand" option.

Method 4: disable add-ons

First, you need to open the Excel file in safe mode. To do this, follow Method 1.

After opening the Microsoft Excel file in safe mode, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Click on the File option present in the upper left corner and click on the Excel Options button

Step 2: Then click on the Add-ons option present in the side menu. Then choose Excel Add-ins and click the Go button to open the Add-Ins selection window.

Step 3: Now, you need to disable all the add-ons present on your system. To do this, uncheck the box present along with active plugins

Step 4: Finally, save the changes by clicking OK

Restart Microsoft Excel and check the problem.

Method 5: try changing the default printer

This method seems irrelevant but it is not. Like, every time the user opens an Excel spreadsheet, internally it tries to communicate with the connected printers to check the supported margins.

That is why it is recommended to change the default printer to fix Excel 2016 no response error.

Step 1: Open Control Panel and then click Printer and Devices.

Step 2: To set the printer as the default, you need to right-click on Microsoft XPS Document Writer.

Lastly, try opening the Excel file again to verify the problem.

Method 6: fix Microsoft Office

This is one of the common solutions of various problems, this will help you to fix Microsoft Excel not responding error on your Windows 10 by repairing the corrupted or inaccessible program files.

Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Go to the Control Panel of your system by navigating through the Start button -> Windows System. After that, click on Control Panel

Step 2: Form the Control Panel window, click Program and Features.

Step 3: In the next window, you need to right click on Microsoft Office and then click on Repair option.

Method 7: reinstall Microsoft Excel

To uninstall and then install the new copy of MS Excel, follow the given steps:

Navigate to "Control Panel" -> "Programs" -> "Programs and Features" -> Find Microsoft Office and right click then select "Uninstall".

After uninstalling, now download a fresh copy and install it again.
