How To Reset Facebook Password

To reset the password for your Facebook account, you will need to verify that it is your Facebook account through one of the recovery options. This allows Facebook to protect your account from other people who may be trying to access it. Your recovery options will depend on what you have set up and saved to your account in the past.

Get started by visiting Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com

In the upper right corner of your window there should be a place asking for an email and password to log in.

Under the password should be Forgot your Facebook account? Click on that.

Where it says Please enter your email or phone number to search your account, enter your email or phone number.

This should present you with the recovery options that have already been configured on the account.

Those options may include:

Reliable Contacts:

Trusted Contacts is a new feature recently launched by Facebook that allows you to use one of your Facebook friends to receive your verification code. For this to work, your contacts must have already been configured and approved by you. Learn how to set up Trusted Contacts here: https://www.facebook.com/help/119897751441086?helpref=faq_content

If you've already approved the trusted contact, simply enter the email you have access to and click reveal my trusted contacts. Now enter the name of one of your contacts and Facebook will send a link that only they will receive. From there, they will only have to select the link and provide them with the code to enter.

Security Question:

Few people will have this option because this is only for Facebook accounts that go back far enough when this feature was still available. If you have this option, just enter the answer to the question they provide.

Note: this is case sensitive. Do your best to remember exactly how you would have written it when you originally answered the question.

Send code by SMS:

Choosing this option allows you to receive a text message with a verification code to the phone number attached to the account. Once you receive this text, just open the message and enter the code.

Phone call:

Choosing this option is similar, but instead of a text message, you can receive a phone call to the phone number attached to the account. Select Send call and you will receive a call with a recorded voice that reads your code. Enter this on Facebook.

Tip: Have something to write with before requesting a call in case the call is too fast for you.

Send code by email:

This option allows you to receive a 6-digit code in the email from your Facebook account or any other email that you have already attached to your account.

Just log in to this email and find your Facebook email. Find your 6 digit code in the email and enter it on Facebook.

Automatic verification: use your frequently used mobile device

Facebook recently introduced a new feature that allows you to use the mobile device you frequently use to log into Facebook. This is even more successful when you are also connected to a frequently used WiFi connection. Just open the app and select the forgotten password option. If you use the device often enough, this will automatically redirect you to where you can reset your password without checking.

Account report: identity verification

If you've tried all the recovery options and still can't access your email or if you think someone else has compromised your account, you can submit a form to request help.

With identity verification, you will be able to verify your identity by submitting a government issued ID.

However, you should always be careful when submitting confidential information like this online. It is legitimate and they are required to keep your information protected.

Once you submit your ID to Facebook, they will respond to you within 1-3 days.
