Gmail can fail to sync for many different reasons, and a
sync failure can manifest itself in several ways. You may not have all of your
messages, you may not send an email, you may receive an "account not
synced" error message, or the application itself may be slow. In any of
these cases, you can try several steps to get things working again.
1. Update the Gmail application. Sometimes an older and
outdated version of the app may have trouble receiving email from Google.
Making sure you have the latest and greatest version of the Gmail app will
solve many sync issues.
2. Restart your device. Have you tried turning it off and on
again? Yes, it is a cliche, but it works an amazing number of times.
3. Check your connectivity. Yes, it is a stupid question,
but we have to ask. You can avoid a lot of unnecessary troubleshooting by
making sure you have a good signal, not in Airplane mode, etc.
4. Check the Gmail settings. Should I make sure
synchronization is on? No. But you do. Accidental touches occur, and if Gmail
sync is disabled, nothing syncs. Open the Gmail app and tap the menu button in
the upper left corner -> Settings. Tap your account and make sure you have
checked "Sync Gmail".
5. Delete the data from your Gmail application. Open your
device's Settings app -> Apps & Notifications -> App info -> Gmail
-> Storage -> Clear data -> Ok. Once you're done with that, reboot
your device and see if that worked. Most of the time that will work.
